VISAYAS WEATHER FORECAST: Feb. 15, 2018

SYNOPSIS: At 3:00 AM today, the Low Pressure Area (formerly Tropical Depression “BASYANG”) was estimated based fom all available data at 240 km South Southeast of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan (7.8N, 119.6E). Tail-end of a cold front affecting the eastern section of Southern Luzon. Northeast Monsoon affecting Extreme Northern Luzon.

FORECAST:
Palawan will have cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rainshowers and thunderstorms due to LPA. Eastern Samar and Samar will be cloudy with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to the Tail-end of a cold front. Cebu, and the rest of Visayas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers.

Moderate to strong winds from the East to Northeast will prevail over Palawan and the coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Light to moderate winds will prevail over Visayas, and Occidental Mindoro with slight to moderate seas.

SYNOPSIS: At 3:00 AM today, Tropical Depression “BASYANG” was estimated based fom all available data at 175 kmWest Southwest of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental(8.9N,121.8E) with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 60 km/h. It is forecast to move West Southwest at 26 km/h. Northeast Monsoon affecting Northern and Central Luzon.

FORECAST:
Palawan, Southern Negros Oriental, Southern Negros Occidental will have cccassional rains with gusty winds due to TD Basyang.
The rest of Visayas and the province of Occidental Mindoro will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to Northeast Monsoon and Trough of TD “Basyang”.

Strong to Gale force wind from the Northeast will prevail over Eastern section of Visayas, Palawan and Occidental Mindoro and the coastal waters will be rough to very rough. Moderate to strong winds from the Northeast will prevail over the rest of of Visayas with moderate to rough seas.

#BasyangPh CONTINUES ITS THREAT OVER CARAGA REGION.

Scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains will prevail in the next 24 hours over Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula and the provinces of Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, and Lanao del Sur. Meanwhile, scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rains is expected over Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, and the rest of Mindanao. Residents of these areas must continue monitoring for updates, take precautionary measures against possible flooding and landslides, and coordinate with their respective local disaster risk reduction and management offices.

Expected to make landfall in Caraga Region this morning.

Sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of areas under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS), the seaboards of Northern Luzon and of Visayas, the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon, and the eastern and southern seaboards of Southern Luzon due to the approaching Tropical Storm and the surge of the Northeast Monsoon.
