Cebu Governor Hilario P. Davide III will sit as the vice chairman of the recently launched National Tokhang Advocacy Coalition (NTAC), a PNP top brass said on Monday.
PNP Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Noli G. Taliño said Davide’s appointment came in time during the official launching and oath of support ceremony of NTAC held in Camp Crame in Manila on Sunday where CPADAO chief Ivy Durano-Meca attended the event in behalf of Davide.
The National Tokhang Advocacy Coalition is among the programs of the PNP in revitalizing the crucial role of the community in peace-keeping and nation-building.
Taliño issued the statement on Monday during the formal kick-off ceremony of the 22nd Police Community Relations Month where Davide is the guest of honor and speaker.
Davide, a staunch supporter of President Duterte’s anti-drug war, said that residents and the police have an enormous obligation to maintain peace and order.
“In light of this celebration, the 22nd Police Community Relations Month, we aim to create and strengthen closer relationship between you and the community in handling peace and order concerns,” Davide told some 100 policemen.
Moreover, he said that the maintenance of peace and order is a shared responsibility of the police and the community, “as it is everybody’s business to fight crime.”
Davide, also the chairman of the region 7 peace and order council, shared the achievements brought about by the close cooperation of LGU and police authorities during the recently concluded ASEAN meeting attended by more than 200 foreign delegates.
“We all have a civic duty to act as the eyes and ears of the community and the police force as well,” Davide said in his speech.
During the ASEAN conference, Taliño said Cebu has “zero-ASEAN related incident” from July 1 up to the end of the summit on Sunday.
“The absence of crime and disorder is the test of police efficiency,” Davide said.
Meanwhile, Taliño said he is thankful that the local government of Cebu is very supportive with Task Group Cebu, the group in-charge of the securities of the ASEAN activities.
“Pasalamat ta kay gibuligan ta,” Davide told reporters on Monday.
