Over 120 Squads to Compete in Bootfest on April 7

More than 120 squads from 50 clubs, including the two Palarong Pambansa Cebu teams, will be competing in 17 divisions as the 3rd edition of the BRO National Football Festival 2014 kicks off April 7 at two different setting.

The 3rd edition of the football tournament will highlight a football cup, which sets April 7 and 11, and the football festival, which will kick-off right after the football cup.

In the football cup, which has three divisions- the Under-13, 18 and Men’s open, the teams will play the elimination matches at the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) football field, while the championship match will be at the Aboitiz Sports Field on the last day.

The football festival, on the other hand, has 17 divisions: Mix Under-7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Boys Under-13, 14, 15, 16, 18, Girls Under-15, 18, Exec 38, Exec 45, Men’s Open and Ladies Open.

This year’s tournament, which will be grace by Philippine Azkals’ Chieffy Caligdong, Ian Araneta and Roel Gener, will have visiting teams from Iloilo City, San Carlos City, Dipolog City, Dagupan City, Cagayan de Oro City and Tacloban City.

The organizers said that the tournament will help youngsters in football to become best players and scout players who have potentials.

Aside from the success of the competition, the organizers also assure to heightened security measures of the event, and looks forward a new football scene for Cebu football club following the controversial football incident that took place in the 16th Aboitiz Football Cup.

“We don’t want to ruin the fun because of just one incident. We should not underestimate the capabilities of the Cebuanos on what’s right and wrong. Let’s move on,” said Engineer Keith Buyco, one of the tournament organizers, in a press conference at the Casino Español de Cebu.

Delon Urot, head of the security of the BRO Nationals also assures that there will be 10 blue guards and marshals in the venue.
