● Digital speed limiter will be used to control a bus’ driver from over speeding, LTFRB says.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 7 is set to install gadgets to all passenger buses in the region to regulate the vehicle’s speed limit.

LTFRB 7 Regional Director Ahmed Cuizon last week said that the digital speed limiter will be used to control a bus’ driver from over speeding.

“Few months from now a circular for its implementation will be disseminated”, Cuizon said.

Cuizon, who was the main panelist of PAPI Weekly Media Forum at the Cebu Business Hotel, Cebu City, said the installation of digital speed limiter to every passenger bus aims to minimize vehicular accidents mainly caused by over speeding. He emphasized that a speed limiter, which has a size of a wall clock, will be installed above the driver’s seat, conspicuous to all passengers.

Cuizon said that this gadget will be installed by the LTFRB to each passenger bus to discourage the drivers from over speeding.

The vehicle that is running on over the allowable speed of 80 kilometers per hour limit can be easily detected once the digital speed limiter is installed. When the bus runs s speed higher than 80 kilometers, an automatic sound can be heard as a signal the bus is in its high speed, he said.

Cuizon also said that the LTFRB workers will be the one to install the central processing unit of the digital speed limiter and they are also the ones who will open the gadget anytime an over speeding complaint will be lodged by the passengers.

He added that the gadget costs P4,500 each to be shouldered by the operator of a passenger bus.

Cuizon also recalled that this matter was just a mere proposal by an observer who emphatically wrote his suggestion in his Facebook.

“Because the proposal was meritorious, our boss immediately sent a memorandum to all LTFRB regional directors nationwide for us to comment on the suggestion. We found it implementable so our answer to the query was positive”, Cuizon said.
