Album Review – Only a Matter of Time

Fragile Tone with help in coordination with Kalye Musika and Handuraw Pizza Gorordo launched the long awaited Dave Gonzales Album launch entitled Only a Matter of Time. The historical event happened last March 20, 2015 at Handuraw, Gorordo Ave. Cebu City.

The event was truly historical because it is the first ever guitar solo album coming from a Cebuano musician.

Only a Matter of Time has 9 tracks. The album opens up with its 1st song, Release followed by The Children Didn’t Change, next is Peace of Mind then Candy Store, The Good Things in Life, Quarter to One, Misunderstood, Shiratori and ends with the last and title track, Only a Matter of Time.

All of the songs have their own uniqueness and quality. Release is a good song to open the album. It has one of the heavy riffs and it quickly introduces the finger speed of Dave Gonzales. One of my favorites is Candy Store, a song that has a dancing vibe to it, mixed with some eastern guitar influences.

The Good Things in Life is a slow emotional song which shows the versatility of the guitarists that is invogorating. Another song entitled Shiratori is also a slow song but is different because of its overall sexy feel.

One more thing to point out in this album is the work of the supporting musicians, the bassist, drummer and the keyboardist all played a capable supporting role to spotlight Dave Gonzales guitar mastery.

All in all, the album featured the virtuosity and the versatility of Dave Gonzales, it showed his guitar skills as well as his craftsmanship as a songwriter. Because its historical and artistic value, this album is worth our hard earned money. Kudos to Dave Gonzales, Fragile Tone and Kalye Musika for this historical album!
